Title: Peters Place Programs - Outreach and Education for Grieving Children and Grieving Families
Peter's Place is more than just a physical place, we are a resource to the greater Philadelphia community. Through our Outreach program, Peter's Place offers support and advocacy for grieving children, teens and families by offering a variety of services designed to meet the individual needs of schools and organizations.

In-School Grief Support

While loss impacts each person differently, children and adults also grieve within the context of their family, and our on-site services are designed to work with the whole family. However, we recognize that there are many families who cannot access our on-site services due to a variety of barriers such as distance, socioeconomic stressors or caregivers' ability to participate.

Through our mobile Outreach program, we work to bring Peter's Place support to children in their own schools.

Our in-school peer support program is an 8-week program that we bring to your school and facilitate in conjunction with counseling/social work staff and/or interns. The hands-on program features a variety of creative projects, games and discussions designed to support grieving children. By bringing students together who have had similar losses, we are empowering them with tools to support themselves and each other.

What schools are saying about Peter's Place in-school grief support groups:

Connecting with other students about their loss helped the children feel more like they belong which is so crucial when they have suffered a loss. They all loved it. Thank you again for all that you do! -Elementary School Social Worker

This was a wonderful experience. This particular group of kids has gone through previous group experiences with me. I felt like I had exhausted my resources. Cara's help and materials worked wonderfully. -Elementary Guidance Counselor

The kids were appreciative of being part of the group. They aren't given much of an opportunity at home to talk about their emotions regarding the loss of their loved one. Having the group and each other provides them the outlet they need. The kids reported that it helped them a lot, that they feel better and more confident now, and that they are comforted by talking about their feelings with others who know what it's like. -Elementary Guidance Counselor

Rock on! I am going to miss you and thank you for being our friend. But however, I love it when we made memory boxes it was fun, and also thank you for teaching us about grief. -3rd grader

I am sad that group is ending!! -3rd grader

Thank you for taking time out of your week to do activities with us. -4th grader

I love the program! And I love the memory boxes and grief pies. And the books and balloons. -4th grader

I remember our first group. I remember everything we did together. We made memory boxes and 10 Things I Love About Daddy books, and sent balloons into the sky with our messages. I will never forget you- thank you! -2nd grader
